Global affairs is the study of the relationships and interactions between countries, organizations, and people on a worldwide scale. It examines the world’s interdependence and the issues that face our shared humanity, such as terrorism, refugee crises, global inequality, and environmental degradation. Students in our interdisciplinary major gain a sophisticated understanding of the political, economic, cultural, and environmental processes that shape our world as they explore the broad spectrum of topics within the field.
In New York, the city that is home to many international organizations, our career-connected program will give you the skills to understand and address the complex issues affecting the entire human community. You’ll learn to work across cultures, lead change on a worldwide stage, and solve real-world problems with confidence and curiosity.
Our curriculum is grounded in the belief that the world’s most pressing challenges cannot be solved by any one nation or academic discipline alone. Through our multidisciplinary training, you’ll build the skills and connections to become a leader in global policymaking, business and nonprofit organizations.
There are no pre-requisites for the major, though prospective majors are strongly encouraged to take introductory courses in economics, history, and political science. In addition, students should plan on taking GLBL 4499 (Global Affairs Capstone Project) or write a senior essay in a substantive seminar or in the global affairs senior essay course GLBL 4500. In the case of the former, a student may not receive a grade other than a Cr.
